MINNIE RUTH SPIVEY POWELL 

   WINDSOR - Mrs. Minnie Ruth Spivey Powell, 72, of Colosse died Sunday, 
March 29, at 1:30 p.m., after an illness of four years.

   She was the daughter of Ervin E. [sic; Irvin Exum*] and Indiana Redd 
Spivey of Isle of Wight County and was a member of Colosse Baptist Church.

   She is survived by a son, Rufus J. Powell of Windsor; two brothers, 
Alfred B. Spivey of Windosr and Lud Spivey of Carrsville, and two 
granddaughters, Mrs. Rachel Ann Belcher, Suffolk, and Miss Katie Powell 
of Windsor.

   Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Holland Funeral Home, 
Franklin, at 11 a.m., by the Rev. Donald E. Trump, pastor of the Colosse 
Baptist Church.  Burial was in the Colosse Church cemetery.

   Pallbearers were Dr. Clem Crossland, Horace Spivey, John T. Spivey, 
Guthrie Ballard, Ocie Powell and Chesley Mumford.

Her father is the only marked grave in a SPIVEY family cemetery 
   on Spivey Town Rd.  (IWCHS GSSTF report #150) 

Find a Grave (Mem. #205516051) lists her mother as Indianna REED SPIVEY, in 
   the AVIS family cemetery on Collosse Rd., about 1/8-mile from the church 
   (IWCHS GSSTF report #113); however, only James E. & Mary. M. AVIS are 
   marked there, and the D.Cert. (1930-26151 {Windsor #22}) for "India Anna" 
   gives only buried 19 Nov 1930, Collosse. 

Her husband is buried in Hampton National Cemetery.

They m. 5 Jan 1913 in Gates Co., NC, and div. 22 Nov 1920.  Rufus 2m. Martha 
   Llewelyn BOWDEN 9 Feb 1921 in Suffolk, and div. 3 May 1955. He 3m. 
   Helen C. BUXTON 7 Oct 1955 in Gatesville, Gates Co., NC, who survived him. 
   Martha & Helen are buried in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. 

Rufus' parents, George W. & Catherine Va. (SPIVEY) POWELL, are also buried at 
   Collosse.
