Native, Died Nov. 7 Richard Edward Pulley, 77, of 311 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hampton, died early Monday morning, November 7, in Mary Immaculate Hospital after a long illness. A native of Isle of Wight County, he had been a Peninsula resident for 30 years. He was a member of the Dendron Baptist Church and the Retired Men's Club. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Hines Pulley; three sisters, Mrs. M.J. Burleigh of Newport News, Mrs. Hurley Lawrence of Portsmouth, and Miss Mary Pulley of Newport News, and a brother, George Pulley, of Newport News. His parents, George Robert Lewis & Caroline Virginia (BRITT) PULLEY, are also buried there. D.Cert. 24702 (Newport News #559) His father (1844 - 1920) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. A, 19th Battalion VA Heavy Artillery. Richard's mother (1854 - 1931) applied for a pension, 27 Mar 1922, in Isle of Wight Co. Her father, Wm. Robert BRITT (b. ca. 1831) was also a Confederate soldier. Serving as a private in Co. D, 16th VA Infantry, he d. 22 Jun 1862 at Chimborazo Hospital No. 4, Richmond, of catarrh & measles, leaving a widow & three young daughters. He is buried unmarked in Oakwood Cemetery, Richmond.
