H.I.* PILAND DIES FOLLOWING 6 MONTHS ILLNESS MRS. H.I. PILAND DIES AT HER HOME NEAR SMITHFIELD Mrs. H.I.* Piland died Tuesday morning at 12:10* o'clock at her home in the country near Smithfield, following a long illness of six months. She was a native of Gates County, N.C., but has been living in Virginia since 1906. Mrs. Piland was 56* years old. She is survived by her husband H.I.* Piland and six children; Mrs. George W. Piland, Smithfield; Mrs. Gurnie Eure, N.C.; Mrs. Jasper Johnson, Carrsville; Mrs. Herbert Johnson, Suffolk; Miss Dorothy Piland, Smithfield; Mr. Roland Piland, Smithfield. She is also survived by three sisters and one brother; Mrs. Bob Darden, Mrs. William Darden, and Mrs. Marvin Fulgham, all of Smithfield, and Mr. W.R. Pierce*, of West Virginia. She is survived by eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Uzzell's Church. Rev. Summerville, officiated, assisted by Rev. T. McN. Simpson, of Smithfield. The following hymns were sung: "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," "Meet Me There". The active pallbearers were: F.T. Garner, Julius Godwin, Fenton Garner, Leroy Presson, Sam Garner, and Eddie Scott. PEARCE EASON 1855 - 1917," but FaG gives "Elizabeth Alice" and d. 6 Jun [wrong!].
