MARY J. VAUGHAN PERSONS

   SUFFOLK, JULY 29 - Mrs. Mary J. Persons, prominent citizen of Isle of Wight 
County, died early this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.S. Drake, 
with whom she has made her home for the past three years, aged 80 years.

   Mrs. Persons was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. [sic; C.] Vaughan of 
Nansemond County, and removed to Isle of Wight on her marriage to Thomas S. 
[sic; A.] Persons.  She has been for more than fifty years a member of Western 
Branch Baptist Church.  Surviving her are her daughter, Mrs. D.S. [sic; F.S.] 
Drake, of Suffolk, and Mrs. K.E. Johnson, of Windsor; two grandchildren, 
Margaret Persons and Haywood Persons, of Salem, and several nieces and 
nephews.  Funeral services will be held at Western Branch Baptist Church 
Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. J. Sidney Cobb, 
assisted by the Rev. Dr. H.J. Goodwin.  Burial will be made in Cedar Hill 
Cemetery.*
