Parker died about 5:30 a.m. in Lakeview Hospital from a wound in his right knee. He had bled to death from internal hemorrhages, according to Dr. Edward Joyner, Suffolk coroner. Accused of murder was J.B. Duck, about 28. He is being held in the Nansemond County jail under $500 bond. Hearing of the case will be set later. Duck told Sheriff W.C. Whitehead, of Isle of Wight County, that Parker was shot during a friendly drinking bout in his house. But he didn't remember how or why it happened, he said. Old Shotgun Used The shooting took place about 3:30 or 4 a.m., said Whitehead. The weapon was an old, battered shotgun, "not worth 15 cents," he said. Duck drove Parker to the hospital about 5 a.m. in the injured man's car, and then left immediately. He didn't know Parker had died until he was arrested at 8 a.m. by Sheriff Whitehead and Town Sergeant J.C. Cope, of Windsor. Parker, about 35, lived in Southampton County, about seven miles from Windsor, in the community of Burdette. Recently, he operated a peanut- shelling business in Windsor. He is also described as a part-time painter and carpenter. He leaves a wife and seven children. Duck, who has a wife and two small children, lives about four miles west of Windsor. Besides Duck's family, there was another man, his wife and three children sleeping in the Duck house at the time of the shooting. They were awakened by the shot, according to Sheriff Whitehead. Parker's body is resting in the I.O. Hill Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. ****************************************************************************** Parker Funeral To Be Tomorrow Funeral services for Albert Staley Parker, of Southampton County, who died early yesterday morning at a local hospital as the result of a gun wound, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at tha Colosse Baptist Church in Isle of Wight County. His paternal grandfather James W. PARKER was marked there by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, but most of the information is wrong. It shows James E. PARKER (1844 - 1909), Sgt., Co. D, 48th MS Infantry. Rather, he was a private in Co. B, 43rd AL Infantry.
