He was 60 years of age. Mr. Pruden, a prominent farmer of the Carrsville community, was the husband of Mrs. Jessie Wolfenden Pruden and son of the late Henry Pruden and Elizabeth Whitfield Pruden of Isle of Wight County. Besides his wife he is survived by half-brother, Johnny Bracey of Carrsville, and one niece. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at three o’clock at the graveside in Beaver Dam cemetery, Rev. Jean A. Vache of Franklin officiating. The pallbearers were Herbert Saunders, Sidney Eason, R.L. Myers, J.F. Duke, Jr., Ray Duke, Wilson Butler, J.E. Rose, Sr. and H.P. Brett. PRUDEN (10 Mar 1827 - 12 Jun 1907), also buried at Beaver Dam, does not agree with data on Stephen's father. Widower Henry Pruden (b. ca. 1835, Iow.Co.) m. Eliza J. [Whitfield; wid/o John E.) Bracey (b. ca. 1850, Iow.Co., dt/o Robert Whitfield), 9 Dec 1885, in Nansemond Co. (FamilySearch.org "Virginia Marriages") The 1900 Census (Windsor Dist. {#17}, IoW.Co.) gives Henry, b. Jun 1832; Elizabeth J., Sep 1826; Stephen, Jan '87; & John R. Bracy, Jul '72. Neither Henry not Elizabeth received a Confederate pension. Henry Pruden (b. ca 1832, Nan.Co., sn/o John W. & Elizabeth Henry Pruden) 1m. 21 Sep 1858 Sarah Watkins (dt/o Amos & Margaret Watkins). Widowed, he 2m. Polly Johnson (dt/o Wiley). Stephen's half-brother Johnny R. BRACEY is also buried at Beaver Dam (BD-7). So is their mother {also unmarked; added to BD-63}, according to her D.Cert. (1938 #9429 {Windsor #3}).
