Roberts The remains of Mr. Roberts, whose death occurred suddenly Tuesday morning, May 31, were taken from the H.D. Oliver's Funeral Apartments, 610-12 East Freemason street via Norfolk and Western Railway to Windsor, where funeral services were held at Christian Church at 10 o'clock. Interment was in the family burial ground. Herbert P. ROBERTS, retired steam engineer, b. 1868*, Edenton, NC, d. 31 May 1932, Norfolk, interred in the family cemetery*, near Windsor, 2 Jun 1932, "The Smithfield (VA) Times," Vol. 13, No. 10, June 9, 1932, p. 1, col. 2 *Additional information: Birthdate &c. from D.Cert. #10345, which gives dt/o Stephen W. Roberts, b. IoW.Co., & Martha Haynes, b. Edenton, NC; the informant was Franklin W. Roberts, of Norfolk. The details are difficult to read, but his chest was "crushed 'neath house boat." The 1900 Census gives b. Feb 1870, Va. I show his mother as Stephen's 1st wife Eliza May Haynes; they m. 28 Apr 1856, Chowan Co., NC. Stephen 2m. Ada Talitha Jones, 3 Feb 1885, IoW.Co.
