ROBERTS, 72, SUCCUMBS HERE Well-Known Citizen, Father of Underwood, Dies Last Night At Wellons Street Home; Funeral Thursday. J. T. Roberts, aged 72, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.W. Underwood, at 108 Wellons street, last night at 10:10 o'clock. Death terminated an illness of several days. Mr. Roberts is survived by a son, Paul L. Roberts, of Philadelphia, and the daughter with whom he made his home here; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. J.R. Bulls, of Norfolk, and a nephew, C.B. Bulls, of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted from the Underwood residence at 4 p.m., Thursday, with interment to be made in the churchyard of Bethlehem Christian Church. Mr. Roberts was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and of the Maccabees. His parents were Lemuel Banks & Elizabeth (COUNCIL) ROBERTS. The Nansemond Co. M.Reg. gives his father as Levin Banks ROBERTS. (1882 {BVS copy} p. 249B #142) His sister "Bettie" Elizabeth Drucilla ROBERTS (1859 - 1928) was buried in the old family cemetery near Windsor.
