ROBERTS, Southampton Co. native, d. 18 Dec 1971, age 79, interred in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery*, near Franklin, 20 Dec 1971, donated obit, newspaper unknown *Additional information: MUMFORD in original obituary replaced with MUNFORD throughout. Her parents have been difficult to identify. Her D.Cert. (#71-035473) gives dt/o Joseph S. & Frances (Wyatt) Munford. Josiah Thomas MUNFORD (b. Jan 1846) 1m. 14 Feb 1867 Sarah W. "Sallie" MANRY (b. ca. 1842) {IoW.Co.}; 2?m. 10 Jan 1896 Frances WYATT (1872-1958) 10 Jan 1896 {So.Co. MB9:1}. Mary does not appear with them in the 1900 or 1910 Census. (Holy Neck Dist., Nansemond Co.) The 1900 says Josiah & Frances had been married 3 years, with their only child (son James A., b. Nov 1897) surviving, plus his son George T. (b. Jan 1877) & daughter Minnie (b. Jan 1895). Mary does appear with her widowed aunt Maggie (Wyatt) Edwards in both the 1900 & 1910 Census in Windsor Dist., Isle of Wight Co. - in 1900 as Mary Munford, b. Mar 1892, gdt/o Margaret H. Wyatt, with widower Joseph H. Munford (b. Jan 1858) also boarding there. Margaret A. Harriet Mountford (Munford) m. 20 Aug 1857 Albert Wyatt (IoW.Co.). Margaret (M.A.) appears in the 1880 Census in Franklin Dist., Southampton Co., with one son & four daughters - M.C. 18, M.A. {Maggie} 16, M.A. {Mary Alice} 13, & F.C. {Frances}). While this obit calls J.T. & Frances' dt (Bertha) Maude (Mrs. Dwight L.) Trueblood her sister, their dt Minnie O. "Nannie" (Mrs. George W.) Walker's donated 1921 obit mentions only 1 sister - Bertha; file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/nansemond/obits/w426n1ob.txt Minnie seems to have been born a year before J.T. & Frances wed. It is possible that Mary was also born to them out of wedlock, or she may have been the daughter of Joseph H./S. MUNFORD and M.C. WYATT. Frances is also buried (unmarked) at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.
