All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ELAN THOMAS RHODES Elan Thomas Rhodes, 54, prominent farmer of Colosse, Isle of Wight County, died on Monday morning of this week in Lakeview Hospital in Suffolk, after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie H. Rhodes; a daughter, Miss Frances Rhodes, two sons Elan T. Rhodes, Jr., and William Joseph Rhodes; four brothers, Ernest, Emmett H., John and Kenny Rhodes; four sisters, Mrs. Eunice Wiggins, Mrs. Mattie Lewis, Mrs. Edna Gay, and Mrs. Dolly Carr. Funeral services were conducted from the Colosse Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Rev. J. Sidney Cobb. Interment was made in the church cemetery, with the following as active pallbearers: John A. Coggins, Hurley Gay, Chester L. Carr, Jesse Holland, Willie Holmes, W.E. Spires, Mills Spivey and Raleigh Rhodes. Members of the W.O.W. Lodge, with which the deceased was affiliated, were honorary pallbearers.
