Rawls was held Friday in Beaver Dam Baptist Church at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Edwin C. Thornton Jr. and the Rev. Carl Lee Ousley of Holland. Rawls, a prominent farmer of Nansemond County, was killed Wednesday when he fell on a power saw at his farm about two miles south of here. He was a son of the late Lafayette and Annie Ashburn Rawls of Nansemond County. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Edith Daughtrey Rawls; three daughters, Betty Rawls of Hampton and Edith F. and Susan A. Rawls of the home; a son, Emmit L. Rawls Jr., a student at VPI; and a brother, James A. Rawls of Richmond. Pallbearers were A.R. Butler, Jr., John Edward Rose, Willie T. Wingourne, Claude Hedgepeth, Howard Blythe and Elliott Johnson.
