Rainey, age 39, of 202 Ridgeland Dr., Smithfield, District Conservationist in charge of Isle of Wight Surry work unit headquartered at Isle of Wight died early Monday am. at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC.  Mr. Rainey was a native of Dinwiddie County, a graduate of Dinwiddie High School, and earned his B.S. Degree in agricultural engineering at VPI in 1950.  He began his work with the Soil Conservation Service as a student trainee in 1949.  After earning his degree, he joined the S.C.S. on a full- time basis in July.  Mr. Rainey was a member of the Christ Episcopal church, where he had served as Senior Warden and as Superintendent of the church school.  He was a member of the Vestry.  He was also active in the Cub Scouting program, was a past master of the Smithfield Union Lodge Number 18, A.F. and A.M. and member of the Smithfield Chapter Number 127, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Smithfield Royal Arch Masonic Chapter Number 57.  He was also past secretary. He also was a member of the Virginia Chapter of the Soil Conservation Society of America.  He was a member of the Smithfield German Club.  He was a son of the late Thomas O. and Mr. Lula B. Rainey. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred Lewis Rainey; two sons, Marion Bourdon Rainey, Jr. and Bruce Gison Rainey, both of the home; one brother, T.O. Rainey, Jr. of Dinwiddie, Va.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. from the Christ Episcopal Church in Smithfield by the Rev. Macon B. Walton, Rector.  Interment will be in St. Luke's Cemetery, near Smithfield, with Masonic rites. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, Smithfield, Va.  Services are being directed by the Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
