Raney Sr. Zuni Merchant, Died Sun., Mar. 19 Roy Alexander Raney Sr., merchant at Zuni for thirty years, died Sunday, March 19, 1961 at 8 A.M. after a heart attack. He was a clerk at the Norfolk & Western Railway before opening a general store in Zuni. A son of Matthew A. and Nan Jordan Nicholson Raney [sic*], he was a native of Norfolk. He was an elder in the Zuni Presbyterian Church and a member of the Zuni Masonic Lodge. Survivors are his widow, Pearl Thomas Raney; a daughter, Mrs. Emmett Copeland of Portsmouth; a son, Roy A. Raney Jr., student of Norfolk College of William and Mary; and a sister, Mrs. Leonard E. Eley of Zuni. A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 21 at 10 A. M. in the Purviance Funeral Chapel at Wakefield, conducted by the Rev. Gerald Voye of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Zuni, and the Rev. Jeff Monroe, a former pastor.
