J.C., 19, & A.R., 17, appear with farmer "Ludlow Watkis" [sic; Ludloe WATKINS] in the 1880 Census - Windsor Dist., IoW.Co. - as laborers. His father (b. ca. 1829) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in the first organization of the 61st VA Infantry. Augustus, age 21, & "Mattie" Martha Frances LEWIS (1860 - 1957), daughter of James J. & Ann Frances (TURNER) LEWIS, m. 18 Nov 1883 in Isle of Wight Co. Her father was also a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in the Surry Light Artillery. He applied for a pension 7 Apr 1910 in IoW.Co. "Martha Francis" appears with her parents in the 1900 Census - Cypress Dist., Nansemond Co. - widowed, 5 of 6 children surviving. Mattie's D.Cert. 8400 (Newport News #169) gives widow of Arthur R. SPIVEY; daughter of James & Martha Frances LEWIS. She is buried in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.
