Born in Isle of Wight County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Vaughan Spivey and a son of Benjamin A. and Mrs. Louisa Redd Spivey. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. William Carr, Mrs. Junie Stephens and Mrs. Mary E. Barrett of Carrsville; three sons, Rodney B. Spivey and James E. Spivey of Norfolk and Melvin V. Spivey of Carrsville; a brother, Ruben (Scott) Spivey of Windsor; 14 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Colosse Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald E. Trump, pastor. Burial was in the church cemetery with W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Gilmer Parker, Raby Holland, Delman Carr, P.B. Butler, Jr., Chester Carr, J.P. Carr, Edward Lankford and Letcher Carr.
