All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARY LULIE SPIVEY Miss Lulie Spivey, age 72 years, a well known and beloved resident of the Colosse Community in Isle of Wight County, following an illness of several weeks, died on April 13, at the home of her nephew, Julian C. Jenkins, of this community. Miss Spivey was a consistent and active member of the Colosse Baptist Church and the Woman’s Missionary Society. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Martha Rhodes Spivey of Isle of Wight County. Surviving her is one brother, John J. Spivey, of Suffolk, and a number of nieces and nephews, among whom are Julian C. Jenkins, Floyd F. Jenkins of Franklin, and Miss Myrtle Jenkins of Edenton, N.C. Miss Lulie, as she was best known to her many friends, has been a member of and made her home with the Jenkins family for more than a half century. Funeral services were conducted at her home on Sunday, April 15, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Jack Boyles, her pastor; Rev. J. Sidney Cobb, a former pastor of Whaleyville; Dr. Beecher L. Rhodes, of Norfolk, and Rev. R.D. Stephenson, of Franklin officiating. Music was rendered during the services by the male quartet of Colosse Baptist Church. The pallbearers were Otis Joyner, W.E. Beale, Grafton Spivey, Hurley Spivey, Ralph Bowden, Homer Powell, Hurley Gay and Hubert Jenkins. Interment was made in the Colosse Church cemetery.
