Edwin C. Thornton Jr. and the Rev. N.C. Clifton. Burial with Masonic rites was in the church cemetery with W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Joel Bradshaw Jr., Jarvis Howell, J.C. Rose Jr., Hunter Daughtrey, Walter Johnson, John Edward Rose, Maxey Day and Walter Beale III. Spencer, 81, died Friday at 7:10 p.m. in his home. A native of Gretna, he was a son of the Rev. Littleton Edmond Spencer and Mrs. Rebecca Vaden Spencer and the husband of Mrs. Mary Sue Daughtrey Spencer. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and Portsmouth Naval Masonic Lodge 100. He was a retired Norfolk Naval Shipyard quarterman. Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, W. Tyler Spencer of Richmond.
