Funeral services for John Oliver Scott, 51, who died Friday, February 1, in Raiford Memorial Hospital were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Edwin C. Thornton, pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, were the officiating ministers. Mr. Scott, a lifelong resident of Franklin, was the husband of Mrs. Marie Wynes Scott of Franklin, and the son of Herbert Hudson and Lillie Gardner Scott of Hunterdale. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and of the Cypress Cove Country Club. He has served in the U.S. Army. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Elsie Scott Griffin of Smithfield, Mrs. Hope Scott Wright, now with her husband in German, and Mrs. Shirley Scott Holland of Franklin; two sons, John Oliver Scott, Jr., and William Thomas Scott, both of Franklin; two grandchildren, B.S. Griffin, 3rd, and Debra Lou Holland; two sisters, Mrs. J.G. Joyner, Jr., and Mrs. Julian P. Whitley, and a number of nieces and nephews. Burial was in Beaver Dam Church Cemetery, and active pallbearers were Elmo Holland, Braxton Holcombe, Edgar Blythe, Herman Scott, Ryland Hasty, S.M. Joyner, L.A. McLear and Asa Joyner. Friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers.
