STRINGFIELD Newport News, Va., Dec. 1 - George W. Stringfield, pioneer citizen of Newport News and retired customs inspector, died yesterday morning at the home of his daughter in Washington, where he had been visiting for the past month. The funeral will be held Saturday at 2:30 o'clock, from Trinity Methodist Church, where he served as one of its oldest officials.  Mr. Stringfield has been in the customs service for thirty years prior to retirement last July.  He was 74 years old and came to this city from Isle of Wight County, where he was born. About a month ago, he went to Washington on an extended visit at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.M. Grimes.  Two weeks ago he contracted pneumonia, from which he died. Four children survive him - Mrs. H.M. Grimes, Washington; E.W. Stringfield, Philadelphia, and C.C. Stringfield.  Newport News.  His wife, who was Miss Alice Chatham*, of Isle of Wight County, died about eleven years ago. George W.
