JOSEPH RODGERS STRINGFIELD 

J.H. STRINGFIELD, I-W NATIVE BURIED 

  Joseph Rodgers Stringfield, 53, of Hampton, died December 8th.

  Mr. Stringfield was born in Isle of Wight County, and had lived in Newport 
News, 25 years.  He was a member of the Orcutt Avenue Baptist Church and was 
employed in the Norfolk Navy Yard at Portsmouth.

  Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Asia Stringfield; a daughter, Miss Lina 
Stringfield; five sisters, Mrs. J.H. Dooly and Mrs. J.G. Crowder of Newport 
News; Mrs. Ulysses Harlow of Portsmouth, Mrs. Nannie Fredue of Alabama and 
Mrs. Robert Frazier of Washington; and a half-brother Otis Bailey of 
Portsmouth.

Birthdate &c. from D.Cert. #27120, which gives sn/o Milton Stringfield, 
   both b. Isles of Wight Co. [sic]. 

His mother, Cornelia Anne, is buried in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield.

Milton (b. Aug 1848) & Cornelia (b. Aug 1848) appear 2 Jun in the 1900 Census 
   in Newport Dist., IoW.Co., with 7 of her 8 surviving children (of 9), 
   including Joseph (b. Jan 1888). 

Milton 1m. Martha Ann DREWRY, 26 Sep 1878, and 2m. Cornelia 3 Dec 1885. 

Cornelia 2m. Ocie BAILEY {1883-1962}, but the cemetery list gives 
   Cornelia A. STRINGFIELD (18 Mar 1872 - 5 Apr 1924). 

Their marriage record has many issues -

Her D.Cert., #10342 (N.News #98), gives b. 18 Mar 1872, Isle of Wight Co., 
   dt/o Soloman Crumpler & Katherine Ryan [sic], both b. Va. 

Solomon B. Crumpler & Catherine M. Bryant, both b. Southampton Co., 
   m. 28 Feb 1857, in IoW.Co.
