He was a life-long resident of Isle of Wight County and a member of the Central Hill Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Martha Wells Stringfield; three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Johnson and Mrs. Jack King, Jr., both of Suffolk, and Mrs. Cecil Berryman of Lackey; three sons, James A. Stringfield of Norfolk, and John and James R. Stringfield, both of Isle of Wight; a brother, Rufus Stringfield of Isle of Wight Courthouse; and six sisters, Mrs. Brandford Stanley, Mrs. James Peden, Mrs. Sam Jones, Mrs. C.A. Minton, all of Smithfield, Mrs. R.H. Wells and Mrs. A.L. Wells, both of Carrollton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bullock Funeral Home by the Rev. John C. Leitner, pastor of the Central Hill Baptist Church and the Rev. J.W. Collins, pastor of Pine Grove Tabernacle. Burial will be in the Central Hill Cemetery. (IoW.Co. #36) He appears in the 1950 Census - Rt. 620, Hardy Dist., IoW.Co. - as a farm hand, on the farm of Martha's brother Reginald H. WELLS, who married James' sister Maywood. His widow (1930 - 2003) 2m. in 1958 Richard David EDWARDS (1935 - 1997).
