STRINGFIELD BURIED SUNDAY IN ISLE-WIGHT COUNTY Mrs. Mary Francis Stringfield, aged 33, died Friday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Smith, near Smithfield after a long illness. She was the wife of Roy Stringfield who survives her. She is also survived by three daughters, Margaret, Hazel and Alice Jean Stringfield; a son James Albert Stringfield, all of Isle of Wight; six sisters; Mrs. G.W. Edwards, Mrs. Maude Stanley, Mrs. Effie Knight of Isle of Wight; Mrs. Clarence Gay and Mrs. Ballie Gay of Zuni; Mrs. L.E. Bassett of East Portlock; four brothers, J.T. and R.W. Griggs of East Portlock; S.G. Griggs of Chuckatuck and T.H. Griggs of Isle of Wight. The body was taken to the Rouse Funeral Home in Smithfield. Active pallbearers were Curtis L. Stanley; W.G. Edwards; L.E. Bassett; W.N. and Allen Minton and Lester Smith. Funeral services were held at the grave in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery Sunday afternoon with the Rev. T. Fred Wright of Windsor officiating. Birthdate from D.Cert. 15844 (Hardy #13), which gives STRINKFIELD. She & James m. 1 Dec 1926. (Nansemond Co. #284) James 2m. Martha Virginia WELLS, daughter of Charlie Lee & Mary E. (BROWN) WELLS, 23 Jun 1945. (IoW.Co. #36) He appears in the 1950 Census - Rt. 620, Hardy Dist., IoW.Co. - as a farm hand, on the farm of Martha's brother Reginald H. WELLS, who married James' sister Maywood. James, b. 1 Dec 1906 to James William & Lillie Boykin (GOODSON) STRINGFIELD, d. 21 Dec 1957 in Isle of Wight Co. (D.Cert. 31639 {Hardy #15}). He was buried with his parents in Central Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, apparently unmarked. His parents appear, but he does not, on IWCHS GSSTF report #56.
