STEARNS [sic] BURIED LAST SUNDAY Perley C. Stearnes, [sic] aged 65, died suddenly Saturday morning at his home in Smithfield, having been up to a few minutes prior to his death in excellent health. Mr. Stearnes, was a native of Ohio, came to Isle of Wight County 21 years ago, and made his home for a number of years at Morgart's Beach. With his wife, Mrs. May C. Stearnes, [sic] who survives him, he has traveled extensively for the past seven years, retaining, however, the home in Smithfield. He was loyal to a marked degree to his adopted state, and made a wide circle of friends, who will mourn his death. Funeral services were held at the grave Sunday afternoon at 4;30 o'clock in Old St. Luke's Church yard, conducted by the Rev. William Brayshaw. Active pallbearers were Ray Conklin, James Cox, C.D. Haverty, Rufus Smith, Frank Moody, Dr. Rea Parker. Perley C.
