All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Service Here Last Saturday for Mrs. Simpson Mrs. Emily Delk Simpson of Smithfield, 82, died Wednesday, March 22, in Farmington, Michigan, while visiting her daughter, Mrs. H.T. Stultz, Jr. She was a lifelong resident of Smithfield, wife of the late Frank Brittlebank Simpson, Sr., and a daughter of Captain O'Weighton G. and Mrs. Anna Spratley Delk. She was educated in private schools in Smithfield and continued her education at the Norfolk academy. Her religious, cultural and social activities were many and varied. She was active in all Christ Church organizations and organist for many years. She was active in organizing and leading the Smithfield Woman's Club, directress of Isle of Wight County A.P.V.A., where she helped save the Old Courthouse from being razed and the site used for a post office. She was a member of the Shakespeare Class and a member of Col. William Allen Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Stultz, she is survived by two sons, Frank B. Simpson, Jr. of Smithfield and Col. O. Delk Simpson of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Graveside services were held Saturday, March 25th, at 3 p.m. in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield, by Rev. William Taylor Willis. In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorial gifts be sent to the Old Courthouse Fund, Isle of Wight Chapter A.P.V.A. Services were conducted by Colonial Funeral Home.
