SAUNDERS BURIED FRIDAY; RFD CARRIER AT IVOR 44 YEARS IVOR - Funeral services for Leander Thomas Saunders, 73, were conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Ivor Baptist Church by the Rev. Horace E. Twine, pastor, assisted by the Rev. George B. Kissinger. Burial was in Ivor Cemetery. The pallbearers were C.W. West, Jr., J.T. Faircloth, Jr., J.H. Holloman, Jr., R.H. Pulley, Jr., Homer S. Saunders, Jr., T.A. Saunders, III, and George Thomas Wade, Jr. Mr. Saunders died Wednesday at 10 p.m. at his home here after at brief illness. A native of Isle of Wight County, he was a son of Thomas A. and Mrs. Laura Gaskins Saunders. He was a member of Ivor Baptist church and a deacon emeritus of the church. He had served as a rural letter carrier at Ivor for 44 years until his recent retirement. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Edna Faircloth Saunders of the home; two sons, the Rev. Leander T. Saunders, Jr. of Warrenton and Alonzo Walter Saunders of Ivor; one daughter, Mrs. Laura S. James of Farmville; one sister, Mrs. Nita S. Pulley of Ivor; three brothers, Cofer C. Saunders of Perryville, Md., Homer S. Saunders of Ivor and Thomas A. Saunders, Jr., of Norfolk; eight grandchildren.
