Snyder, prominent Isle of Wight citizens, were involved in a tragic automobile accident Christmas Eve near Washington, resulting in the death of Mrs. Snyder and serious injuries to her husband. The aged couple were on their way to visit their son, Dale Snyder, when their car skidded striking another car on the highway near the city. Mrs. Snyder was instantly killed and her husband suffered a broken leg, three broken ribs, chest injuries, and an injury to one eye. He was taken to a Washington hospital where his condition is reported as grave. Mr. Snyder is well known here and is one of Isle of Wight's prominent farmers. He owns "The Rocks" which is a large estate near Morgarts Beach, on the James River, a few miles from Smithfield. Mrs. Snyder was a member of the Smithfield Woman's Club, taking an active part in the organization. Their many friends in the vicinity were shocked to receive the news of the terrible accident which occurred as they were traveling to Washington to spend the Christmas holidays. Mrs. Snyder's age was given as seventy. She was killed instantly as the vehicles collided. Mrs. Snyder was one of approximately five hundred persons meeting violent death throughout the Nation during the holidays. Fires, murders, drowning and automobile accidents took a heavy toll of human life in each State during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Snyder celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary Sunday, December 18th at which time they received and entertained a large number of their friends and relatives.
