All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ RICHARD SAUNDERS Richard Saunders Dies At Newsom [sic; Newsoms] At Age 67 Years Richard Saunders, aged 67, prominent Southampton farmer, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. B.F. Ellis, at Newsoms this morning at 3 o'clock. Although in declining health for approximately a year, Mr. Saunders was not critically ill until midweek when he was stricken and grew steadily worse. Surviving Mr. Saunders are five sons, Raymond K. and Percy C. Saunders, of Suffolk; Richard V. and Stanley H. Saunders of Norfolk; and Clarence A. Saunders of Nansemond county; and two daughters, Mrs. Thad Bryant of Sedley and Mrs. B.F. Ellis of Newsoms. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Beaverdam [sic; Beaver Dam] Baptist Church. The procession will leave the funeral parlors of W.J.M. Holland in Franklin at 2:30 p.m. ****************************************************************************** RICHARD SAUNDERS Funeral services for Richard Saunders who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B.F. Ellis, at Newsoms Saturday, September 15, were held at Beaver Dam Church Sunday afternoon with Rev. W.B. Denson officiating. Mr. Saunders, who was 67 years old, is survived by seven children, Mrs. Ellis and Mrs. Ellen Bryant of Newsoms, C.A. Saunders of Holland, Percy and Raymond Saunders of Suffolk, Stanley and Richard Saunders of Norfolk and a brother, Tom Saunders, of Waverly. Interment was made in the church cemetery at Beaver Dam, the active pallbearers being L.L. Maddrey, J.J. Parker, R.H. Rawls, Tom Daughtrey, L.B. Norfleet, M.G. Councill, C.J. Cutchin and J.E. Councill.
