All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Mrs. Saunders Succumbs at 80 Mrs. Whittie Clements Saunders, 80, daughter of the late John M. and Margaret Worrell Clements, of Isle of Wight and Southampton Counties, died yesterday at 2:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Andrew Griffin, at Orbit, Virginia. Other than her daughter, with whom she made her home, she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. W.H. Butler, of Norfolk; three sons, C.F. Saunders, of Virginia Beach, C.R. Saunders, of Windsor and John N. Saunders, of Newport News; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was a member of the Antioch Christian Church. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Antioch Christian Church by the Rev. Ellis Clark, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body was taken to the R.W. Baker Funeral Home where it will remain until tomorrow at 2 o'clock, at which time it will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the funeral services. ****************************************************************************** Rites Are Held For Mrs. Saunders Funeral services for Mrs. Whittie Clements Saunders, who died Wednesday at her home in Isle of Wight County, near Orbit, were conducted Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Antioch Christian Church with the Rev. Ellis Clark, pastor, and the Rev. John Hamm officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The church choir sang "Abide With Me" and "Sometime We'll Understand." Mrs. Robert Gwaltney, accompanied by Mrs. W.C. Wilkins, sang as a solo, "Sunrise." The pall was of pink and lavender carnations and white gladioli. Pallbearers were Marvin, Frank and Channing Clements, James Blanchard, Jack Whitley and D.S. Gwaltney. Friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers. Whittie W.
