DR. ROBERT LEE SEWARD 

SUDDEN DEATHS 

ISLE OF WIGHT PHYSICIAN DIES 

  Dr. Robert Lee Seward, 76, one of the leading physician of this section and 
for nearly a century [sic; half?] engaged in the practice of medicine in Isle 
of Wight County died Monday afternoon at his home.

  Dr. Seward was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Seward, of Surry County and was 
a graduate in medicine of the University of Maryland.

  Of the "family doctor" type, his patients were his "people", and it is known 
that he ministered to the hearts and minds as well as the bodies of his 
clientele.

  He was a member of Isle of Wight School Board for many years and did a great 
service to his community in this field.  He was a member of Central Hill 
Baptist Church, a member of its board of deacons and teacher of the Men's 
Bible Class of the church.

  He took an interest in the agricultural life of the community and was 
president of the Co-operative Farmers' Union of the County.

  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Effie Whitley Seward; three sons, Dr. Blanton 
T. Seward, of Lefis Gale Hospital, Roanoke; Robert Lee Seward, Jr., of 
Richmond, and J. Rowell Seward of Smithfield; two grandchildren, Margaret and 
Robert Seward, III, of Richmond; two brothers, Dr. W.W. Seward, of Surry, and 
J.R. Seward, also of Surry; a sister, Mrs. E.C. Adams, and a half-sister, Mrs. 
Frank Bennett of Surry.

  Funeral services were held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at Central Hill 
Church.
