All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM THOMAS SEWARD PROMINENT CITIZEN DIES AT HOME IN SMITHFIELD William Thomas Seward, a prominent resident of Smithfield, and for twenty-five years or more in the undertaking business in this city, died at his home Tuesday morning, March 19, 1929 after a week's illness, aged 74. The deceased is survived by his wife Mrs. Addie Virginia Lane Seward, five daughters, Miss Helen Seward of Smithfield, Mrs. H.L. Cox, of Newport News, Mrs. Eugene Grim of Norfolk; Mrs. A.W. Flannagan, of Louisa; Mrs. E.M. Pennel of Richmond; two sons, G.J. Seward of Norfolk, and G.W. Seward, of Newport News, also twenty-one grandchildren. Mr. Seward was a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Funeral services were conducted from the home, Thursday morning at 11 o'clock by the Rev. L.F. Paulette. Interment in Ivy Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were J.T. Seward, S.R. Stringfield, J.P. Cox, W.H. Sykes, J.M. Chapman, C.D. Haverty, O.M. Cockes and O.E.
