All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ELSIE GWALTNEY THACKER Funeral services were held Monday, August 3, at 3 p.m, for Mrs. Elsie Gwaltney Thacker, 64, of Route 3, who died late Saturday afternoon, following a long illness. Services were conducted at Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, by the Rev. Richard B. Sisson, pastor of Bethany United Church and the Rev. Glenn G. Williams pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Thacker was a native of Isle of Wight County, the wife of Lawrence C. Thacker and the daughter of the late James L. and Mrs. Effie Scott Gwaltney. She was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, the W.S.C.S. and the Ladies Bile Class. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Raymond G. Thacker, of Smithfield; Shelton L. Thacker, of Smithfield; three sisters, Mrs. P.S. Turner, of Smithfield, Mrs. Carson Delk, of Smithfield, and Mrs. Marvin Thomas, of Smithfield; one brother, Horace D. Gwaltney, of Smithfield, and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were P.S. Turner, Jesse Winslow, H.L. Thacker, Carlton G. Thomas, T.W. Robbins, Mayo B. Jones, E.H. Doggett, Jr., and Cecil Gwaltney.
