THOMAS BURIED MARCH 18TH AT MILL SWAMP Mrs. Emma Bell Thomas, 86, died Friday, March 16, 1956, in Norfolk hospital after a long illness. A native of Surry County, she had lived in Isle of Wight County most of her life, until moving to Portsmouth ten years ago to live with a daughter, Mrs. Bessie T. Webb. She was a member of the Whitehead's Grove Baptist Church. The widow of Samuel Edwin Thomas, she was a daughter of William Thomas and Eugenia Cockes Bell. In addition of Mrs. Webb, she is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Emily McEnerney of Smithfield and Mrs. Irene T. Buhls of Ivor; a step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Story of Petersburg; a step-son, Willie J. Thomas of Newport News; a sister, Mrs. J.S. Vellines of Suffolk and a brother, C.W. Bell of Keller. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Bullock Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. Clayton R. Pitts, pastor of Port Norfolk Baptist Church. Burial was in Mill Swamp Cemetery.
