Rites in Smithfield For Mrs. Effie Thomas 

  SMITHFIELD - Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Elmira Thomas, 76, who died 
Saturday night in a Peninsula Hospital after a long illness, were conducted 
this afternoon in the Bullock Funeral Home. 

  She was a native of Surry County and had lived in Rushmere for the past 20 
years.  She was a member of the Oak Grove Methodist Church. 

  The widow of Wesley D. Thomas, she is survived by a daughter, Miss Hallie 
Mae Thomas, of Rushmere; a son. Marvin R. Thomas, of Smithfield; and two 
grandsons, Carlton G. and Raymond Lee Thomas, both of Smithfield. 

  Officiating at the 2:30 p.m. services were the Reverend L.L. Hazelwood, 
pastor of the Bethany Methodist Church and the Reverend E.W. Rawlings, of 
Warwick.  Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery.

D.Cert. 1326 (Warwick #17) gives her father as "Tump." 

Her mother d. 8 Dec 1884 of pneumonia, age 35.
