Thorne ZUNI - Mrs. Mary Emma Turner Thorne, 79, died in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth, Thursday after an illness of two weeks. A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a member of Antioch Congregational Christian Church, Windsor. She was a daughter of Robert and Mrs. Idolia Kinsman [sic; Kinman] Turner and the widow of Jesse E. Thorne. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ida T. Joyner of Zuni; a son, Jesse L. Thorne of Portsmouth; three half sisters, Mrs. Lee Nelms of Norfolk, Mrs. Farrow Lanier and Mrs. Steve Robinson of Franklin; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. Erold Lotridge. Burial will be in Antioch Church cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9. MUNFORD, is also buried at Antioch, unmarked. Her first husband's name appears variously Kendrick/Kindrick/Kindred KINMAN/KINDMAN/KINMOND &c. He was a Confederate soldier, serving in Co. C, 7th CS Cavalry. She applied for a CS widow's pension 28 Nov 1923, stating she m. 10 Feb 1861 in Southampton Co., and that she never saw her husband again after his company left the area, and that she believed he had died during the war. Actually they m. 11 Jan 1863. (Southampton Co. MB1A:25: M.Reg. p. 13 #5) Emma's mother "Ida" was b. Oct 1869.
