Mrs. Inez Thorne, Of Smithfield, Buried Wednesday 

  Mrs. Inez Gertrude Thorne, aged 62, died Monday morning at 4:30 o'clock at 
the family residence in Smithfield, after a long illness.  She was a lifelong 
resident of Isle of Wight County, and is survived by two sons, Vernon Thorne, 
of Arizona, and Harvey Thorne, of Smithfield; two daughters, Mrs. Nick Jones, 
of Surry County, and Miss Selma Thorne, of Smithfield; two sisters, Mrs. T.P. 
Holland and Mrs. W.T. Bradshaw, of Surry; two granddaughters and several 
nieces and nephews. 

  Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the 
Roberts & Johnson Funeral Home, in Smithfield, by the Rev. L.F. Paulette, 
pastor of Smithfield Baptist Church.  Burial was in Antioch Christian Church 
Cemetery.

Her mother, Mary Susan "Sue" (HOLLAND) JOHNSON (1857 - 1929), is also buried 
   there, unmarked. 

D.Cert. 1628 (Newport #4) gives her father as Benjamin JOHNSON. 

Her father, Bolden B. JOHNSON, was a Confederate veteran, having served as a 
   private in Co. F, 61st VA Infantry.  He was paroled 25 Apr 1865 in IoW.Co.; 
   d. 25 Dec 1890 in IoW.Co.  His widow applied for a pension Feb. 6, 1922.
