Carmel Ch. Joe William Turner, 77, died in a Norfolk hospital Sunday, March 19, 1961, at noon, after hospitalization since November. His wife was the late Sallie Johnson Turner. His parents were John Amos and Virtly [sic; Virtley Ann] Darden Turner of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Randall of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Callie Duck of Carrsville; four brothers, Cassie Turner of Carrsville; Royal Turner of Courtland and Robert Turner and Sam Turner of Windsor and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 21 at 3 P.M. in the Holland Funeral Chapel, Franklin, with burial in Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery. Birthdate from D.Cert. 6261 (Norfolk #566), which mistakenly gives his mother as Ann Dodd. His father (1859-1922) was buried in Roanoke Rapids, Halifax Co., NC. (D.Cert. 321 {R.Rapids #87}) His mother (1861-1948) is buried in Colosse Baptist Church, Collosse; IWCHS GSSTF report #44.
