All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN HARDY TURNER John Hardy Turner, 73, a well-known resident of Windsor, died suddenly Saturday night, May 5, following a heart attack at the home in Windsor of his daughter, Mrs. James A. Whitley. He was a member of the St. Andrews Methodist Church in Greensville County, where he served for many years. Surviving his are two daughters, Mrs. James A. Whitley of Windsor and Mrs. Corbitt Nurney of Smithfield; two sons, Edward D. Turner of Smithfield and John W. Turner of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. L.L. Hedgepeth of Windsor and Lucy Rowell of Emporia; and three brothers, Ben and Willie turner of Emporia and David Turner of Windsor. Funeral services were held at the graveside in Windsor Cemetery on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, with Rev. R.H. Shapland, pastor of the Windsor Methodist Church, and Rev. B.A. Riddle, pastor of the Windsor Baptist Church, officiating. Active pallbearers were Raby Hedgepeth, William D. Rowell, W.E. Stagg, Charles E. Turner, Wallace E. Turner, Emmett M. Whitley, Henry J. Whitley and John H. Whitley.
