MARGARET ELIZABETH TURNER 

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. MARGARET TURNER 

  Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret E. Turner, wife of James C. Turner, of 
Smithfield, who died early Saturday morning in the Tidewater Memorial Hospital 
in Norfolk were held Sunday afternoon at the grave in Mill Swamp Church 
Cemetery with the Rev. L.P. Paulette, officiating and Rev. E.E. Henley 
assisting.

  Mrs. Turner died after a long illness.  Besides her husband she is survived 
by her mother, Mrs. J.R. Barlow and four small children, two sons Joseph and 
Ray Turner and two daughters, Wilma* and Margaret Turner.

  Mrs. Turner was a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church and T.E.L. Sunday 
school class.

  "Nearer My God To Thee" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" were hymns sung at 
the services.

  Active pallbearers were Wilton and Joe Bell, Ralph Russell, David and Arthur 
Barlow.  The Ladies T.E.L. Smithfield Baptist Sunday School Class served as 
honorary pallbearers.

  The casket was covered with sprays of pink and white carnations with fern 
and there were numerous other floral tributes.

Margaret's parents are buried there also, her father John Rob BARLOW sharing 
   a stone with his first wife, and her mother "Nettie" Lenetta Thomas 
   (EDWARDS) BARLOW apparently unmarked. 

Nettie, dt/o Joseph & Elizabeth (EMORY) EDWARDS, was b. 1 Jul 1875, Surry Co., 
   and d. 17 Jul 1938, at the Blue Ridge Sanatorium, Charlottesville.

Margaret's birthdate &c. from D.Cert. #12398 (Lynnhaven, Princess Anne Co. - 
   Kempsville District #31), filed as Mrs. James Clifton Turner, rather than 
   by her given name.
