[...] Our neighborhood lost one of its oldest citizens last week in the death of Mr. W.L. Turner, who died Wednesday evening, April 16th [sic; 18th], at the age of 74 years. Mr. Turner was a member of the Christian church at this place and a veteran of the Civil War. The surviving members of his company attended the funeral in a body. He was the father of eleven children, those surviving him are Mrs. W.T. Murphy, Mrs. J.W. Whitley, Mrs. Robert Reynolds and Mrs. S.T. Gay, Messrs. Lewis A., H.A., J.E. and Zach Turner. The people of this community extend to the family their sincerest sympathies. The family plot is shown & described as being in a field off Bowling Green Rd. (Rt. "652"); however, while the cemetery is closest to Bowling Green Rd. (Rt. 644), it is only accessible off Bob White Rd. (Rt. 652), about a mile south of Courthouse Hwy. [No Isle of Wight County Historical Society {IWCHS} Grave Site Survey Task Force {GSSTF} report.] His parents, Armstrong & Mary Ann (SEEDS) TURNER, are buried in the TURNER family cemetery, off Harry Wilson Rd.
