All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Rites Tomorrow For Jeter Uzzell Funeral services for Jeter Everett Uzzell, 72, a resident of Isle of Wight County, who died yesterday at his home [sic*] at 5:15 o’clock after a short illness, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the R.W. Baker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ellis Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Christian Church Cemetery. He was the son of the late William Uzzell and Texanna Vaughan Uzzell of Isle of Wight County. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lula Mumford [sic; Munford*] Uzzell, of Isle of Wight County; a son, Clyde W. Uzzell, of Norfolk; three daughters, Mrs. Texanna Uzzell Mumford [sic; Munford] of Windsor, Mrs. Emma Leigh Tomlinson of Vera Beach, Florida and Mrs. Mary Catherine Whitley, of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Ocie Uzzell of Isle of Wight County and V.K. Uzzell, of Suffolk. Mr. Uzzell was a member of Antioch Christian Church. ****************************************************************************** Rites Held For Jeter E. Uzzell Funeral services for Jeter Everett Uzzell, who died Sunday at his home in Isle of Wight County, were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the R.W. Baker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ellis Clark, pastor of the Antioch Christian Church, officiating. Miss Mildred Johnson and Mrs. Richard Solomon, accompanied by Mrs. W.F. Whitley, sang "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder." The Rev. Clark read the hymn "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me." The pall was of Calla lilies, white carnations and red roses. Pallbearers were E.L. Chapman, William Uzzell, Arthur Uzzell, Melvin Uzzell, Otney Uzzell, Jack Uzzell, Grover L. Johnson and J.R. Johnson. Interment followed in the Antioch Christian Church Cemetery. His widowed father d. 27 May 1893 in Isle of Wight Co., and the youngest children were "farmed out." Jeter did not know his actual birthdate. The family Bible (destroyed in 1999 by the Hurricane Floyd flooding), gave b. 23 Mar 1878, at the Dr. Emerson place, Isle of Wight Co.
