Ocie Uzzell, 78, Of Windsor, Dead 

  SMITHFIELD, Dec. 22 - Ocie J. Uzzell, 78. husband of Mrs. Clara Bland 
Uzzell, of Windsor, died this morning in Riverside Hospital, Newport News, 
after a long illness. 

  He was a retired farmer and a native of Isle of Wight County.  Surviving 
are two daughters, Mrs. G. W. Hargrave, of Warwick City, and Mrs. Percy Rife, 
of Smithfield; four sons, Letcher Thomas Uzzell, of Newport News, Otney 
Uzzell, of Zuni, Melvin M. Uzzell, and W. Jack Uzzell, both of Windsor, 16 
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

  Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at the Pine Grove Assembly of 
God Church at 2:30 by the Rev. Kent Reckley, pastor and the Rev. V.M. 
Dullabum, of Newport News.  Burial will be in the Central Hill Church 
Cemetery.  The body will be taken from the Jones Funeral home to the church 
at 1:30, where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral.

  Smithfield, Virginia, December 22 - Age 78, husband of Mrs. Clara Bland 
Uzzell of Windsor, died Tuesday morning, December 22, 1953 in Riverdale 
Hospital after a long illness. 

  He was a retired farmer and native of Isle of Wight County.  Surviving are 
2 daughters, Mrs. G.W. Hargroves [sic; Hargrave] of Warwick; Mrs. Percy Rife 
of Smithfield; 4 sons, Letcher Thomas Uzzell of Newport News, Otney Uzzell of 
Zuni, Melvin M. Uzzell and W. Jack Uzzell, both of Windsor; 16 grandhcildren 
and 5 great grandchildren.  Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, 
December 23, 1953 at 2:30 pm at the Pine Grove Assembly of God Church by the 
Rev. Kent Reckley, pastor and the Rev V.M. Bullabaum of Newport News.  Burial 
will be in the Central Hill Church Cemetery, Isle of Wight County.  The body 
will be taken from the Jones Funeral Home to the church at 1:30 pm until the 
hour of the funeral.  Pallbearers: Charley H. Jones, Wilbur Nelms, Robert 
Odom, William Stagg, William O'Berry and Morrison Holland.

  Ocie J. Uzzell 78, husband of Mrs. Clara Bland Uzzell of Windsor, died

D.Cert. 27409 (N.News #671) gives b. 11 May 1875, & mistakenly gives his 
   father as Thomas, rather than William Henry.  The informant was daughter 
   Catherine (Mrs. Percy S.) RIFE.
