JOHN MILSON UNDERWOOD

   Suffolk, July 1 - Funeral services for John M. Underwood, 72 years of age, 
prominent resident of Isle of Wight County, who died suddenly Monday afternoon 
at his home, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Western Branch 
Baptist Church, by the Rev. J. Sidney Cobb, pastor.  Burial will be in the 
church cemetery.

   Mr. Underwood is the second member of this family to be buried from this 
church this week.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Savannah Underwood; three 
children, Mrs. Charles Joyner of Ivor, and Mrs. Odie Underwood Butler and J.L. 
Butler, of Isle of Wight; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

   Active pallbearers will be Milton Johnson, Dr. G.R. Joyner, M.H. Robinson, 
J.B. Williams, Jack Carr, W.J. Lankford, S.T. Holland and H.A. Redd.  Honorary 
pallbearers will be friends of the family and deacons of Western Branch 
Church, in which Mr. Underwood was an officer.  The list of deacons follows; 
S.W. Nelms, W.H. Eley, R.L. Daughtrey, John Bunyan Archer and Paul J. Powell.
