All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CORNELIA ALICE SCOTT VAUGHAN Mrs. Cornelia Alice Vaughan, 75, well known and prominent resident of Franklin, died suddenly Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.L. Beale. Mrs. Vaughan was the widow of James Andrew Vaughan, of Isle of Wight County, and daughter of George W. Scott and Virginia Councill Scott, of Isle of Wight County. For over 25 years she served as a faithful member of the Franklin Baptist Church and the Woman’s Missionary Society of the church. Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. Ernest L. Beale of Franklin, Miss Erma Lee Vaughan, Mrs. Joe Gay Boone of Norfolk; one brother, Luther Scott of Baltimore, and six grandchildren, Vaughan, Ernest and Jack Beale of Franklin; Joe G. Boone, Jr., Lois and Jimmie Boone of Norfolk. Mrs. Vaughan is also survived by a foster son, Sgt. Charles Henley Hayes, U.S. Army, who is stationed at Jamaica, British West Indies. Services for Mrs. Vaughan were held in the E.L. Beale home Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, her pastor, assisted by the Rev. John P. Batkins, pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. A quartet composed of Mrs. H.G. Cobb, Mrs. F.E. Howell, E.K. Brinkley and Joel C. Holland of Murfreesboro sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," accompanied at the piano by Hal J. Lyon. Rev. Mr. Batkins read Tennyson’s "Crossing the Bar," and used the 23rd Psalm as his scripture selection. Rev. Mr. Stephenson offered prayer. The quartet sang "Abide with Me," in closing. At the grave in Beaver Dam Baptist Church cemetery Rev. Mr. Stephenson read the poem "Now the Laborer’s Task is O’er," and offered a committal prayer. The casket was covered with a pall of Baby’s Breath and pink and white carnations. There were many other floral tributes, including a wreath presented by her grandchildren, of pink and yellow roses and carnations. Pallbearers were E.P. Jones, Linwood Norfleet, Marion Ballard, W.W. Winborne, R.L. Miles, Wesley Beale, Jack Holland and R.H. Allen. Cornelia Alice (SCOTT; Mrs. James A.)
