Mr. White, a native of Nansemond County, was employed by Smithfield Foods Inc. of Smithfield. He was a member of Mill Swamp Baptist Church and Mill Swamp Hunt Club. He was an army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Linda Peden White; two sons, Samuel W. White IV and Sterling Wayne White, his mother, Lucy Laine Lonberger, his brother, Joseph Warren White, all of Ivor; and a sister, Sandra W. Brewster of Norfolk. The funeral was conducted Wednesday in Purviance Funeral Home by the Revs. Parker Hooper, Doug Cotter and Jim Ivey. Burial was in Mill Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be sent to the Smithfield Rescue Squad or the American Cancer Society.
