Harold Rumfelt, pastor, and the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins of Franklin Baptist Church. Burial was in Windsor cemetery with W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Billy Raiford, Jesse Vann, Wallace Masons, Emerson Presson, Emory Eley, W.C. Francis, Tommy Birdsong and J.R. Carr. Whitfield, 66, died Monday afternoon in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mertie Carr Whitfield and a son of John E. and Mrs. Lizzie McClenny Whitfield. He was a member of Windsor Baptist Church. He formerly worked for S.W. Rawls, Inc., an oil company. Besides his widow, surviving are two sons, J. Lawrence Whitfield Jr. of Chesapeake and Thomas E. Whitfield of Suffolk; two brothers, George Whitfield and Reese Whitfield of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Irene Ritter of Zuni; and two grandchildren. John Lawrence WHITFIELD, S.W.
