Edwin C. Thornton Jr. and the Rev. Robert D. Fridley. Burial was in Beaver Dam Church Cemetery. A native of Hertford County, N.C., he lived in the Carrsville area 70 years. He was a retired farmer. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Lou Lankford Whitley and a son of Charles Henry and Mrs. Sallie Ann Whitley. He was a life deacon of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and a member of its Men’s Bible Class, Charter member of Walters Ruritan Club, and member of Walters Woodmen of the World Camp. Surviving are two sons Elvin Harrell Whitley Jr. and Charles Roland Whitley of Franklin; a brother Percy A. A native of Hertford County, N.C. and a resident of Carrsville for the past 70 years, he was the husband of the late Mary Lou Lankford Whitley and a son of Charles Henry and Mrs. Sallie Ann Whitley.
