WHITLEY DIES SUDDENLY Newport News, April 2 - George Wesley Whitley, 63, brick contractor, who served two terms on the old Common Council of Newport News, died at 4:45 o’clock this afternoon at his home, 1145 Twenty-six street. He had been somewhat ill in the morning and early afternoon and lay down to rest. His wife came into his room to find him dead. Mr. Whitley was a native of Isle of Wight county, born December 22, 1874. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillian A. Whitley: a brother, Eddie W. Whitley, of Hampton; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Cook and Mrs. Estelle Rountree of Hampton. He was a member of Chestnut Avenue Methodist Church, the Men’s Bible Class of that church and the Business Men’s Evangelist Club. Burial was in Green Lawn Cemetery.
