Whitley, 85, died at 5 a.m. o'clock, Thursday, March 14th, at his home near Central Hill Church, Isle of Wight County. He was born near Isle of Wight Court House, and had lived in the county his lifetime. Surviving him are nine children, five sons, Richard Lee, Jesse, John, George and Robert Whitley; four daughters, Mrs. G.V. Atkins, Mrs. J.R. Whitley, Mrs. Roger Nelms and Mrs. Wilbur Carr; 35 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Central Hill Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Jacobs. Burial was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were grandsons of Mr. Whitley, and friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers.
