WHITNEY Funeral services for William C. Whitney were held Friday afternoon at St. John's Episcopal church near Chuckatuck, conducted by the Rev. E.P. Miner, assisted by the Rev. W.A. Brown. The church choir, accompanied by Miss Elizabeth Daughtrey, sang "Abide With Me", and "When the Day is Done". The casket was covered with a pall of lilies and pink roses. There were many floral tributes. Active pallbearers were Charles B., B.W. and Dr. F.W. Godwin, Franklin Pitt, George B. Powell, Guy Smith, William Dawson and Lester Ridge. Friends of the family were honorary pallbearers. Burial was made in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. William C. WHITNEY, of Portsmouth, retired farmer, Isle of Wight Co. native, d. 9 Nov 1933, Portsmouth, age 82, interred in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Nansemond Co., 10 Nov 1933*, "The Smithfield (VA) Times," Vol. 13, No. 32, Nov. 16, 1933 *His D.Cert.
