Wilson, 56, prominent citizen of Smithfield and former resident of Suffolk, Friday night drowned himself in Pagan River at Smithfield, his body being located at the foot of Wharf Hill Saturday morning about 3 o'clock. Mr. Wilson, formerly in the automobile business, had been unemployed several months. When he failed to come home Friday night at the usual hour Mrs. Wilson telephoned relatives who went out to look for him. At 11 o'clock, after an unavailing search for hours, others were called in the search was pressed and the body was found by R.A. Edwards, brother-in-law. Mr. Wilson's overcoat, neatly folded; with his hat lying on top, was found on the wharf after the body was located. A verdict of suicide by drowning was returned by Coroner Ren Parker after an inquest. Mr. Wilson is a son of Emmett W. Wilson, who survived him, and is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Elsie Edwards Wilson; a daughter, Mabel Wilson and one sister, Mrs. Rufus Smith, all of Smithfield. Mr. Wilson was at one time secretary-treasurer of the B.P. Gay Motor Company, Smithfield and while is Suffolk was connected with the R.G. Edgerton Motor Company. Funeral services were largely attended and were conducted at the grave in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. T. McN. Simpson.
